Reading seminar on Kirby calculus

We will discuss Kirby calculus and its relevance to 3- and 4-manifold topology.

The seminar meets on Wednesdays at 14:00 in M311. Talks will last 60min + 15min approximately. The event will be hybrid.

We will mainly use the following literature:
  • [GS] R. Gompf, A. Stipsicz: 4-manifolds and Kirby calculus, GSM 20 of the AMS
  • [KS] R. Kirby, M. Scharlemann: Eight faces of the PoincarĂ© homology 3-sphere. Geometric topology (Proc. Georgia Topology Conf., Athens, Ga., 1977), pp. 113–146
